Dual Diagnosis

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A holistic and integrative approach to working with individuals with co-occurring disorders is presented in this advanced course. Emphasis is on the assessment, intervention, and treatment of substance-related with co-occurring psychiatric disorders. Recovery, support and relapse prevention are also covered with consideration given to cultural diversity issues and special populations including adolescents and older adults.
COURSE OUTCOMES:

1. Evaluate theories and models of intervention with co-occurring disorders.
2. Formulate diagnoses of co-occurring psychiatric and substance-related disorders
3. Identify legal and ethical issues in diagnosis and treatment
4. Recognize relevance of age, cultural diversity and special populations in diagnosis and treatment
5. Examine research on assessment, diagnosis and treatment of co-occurring disorders
6. Develop relapse prevention plans to promote recovery and resiliency
