PUBLIC HEALTH AND EMERGENCIES ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

OVERVIEW
Emergencies and disasters unfortunately are a way of life. However, those that can prepare and recover from disasters largely reflect those who have resources. In this week’s assignment you will have the opportunity to explain the role that social determinants of health have in community resiliency.

INSTRUCTIONS
Select one natural or man-made natural disaster in the last 10 years, from any country. You should ensure that enough peer reviewed literature exists to write a paper that meets this assignment’s requirement. Using the content outline, fully explain the disaster as related to social determinants of health.

Required Content

1. Introductory paragraph
2. Using a natural or man-made disaster, give a brief background on the disaster and who was affected. Describe the extent of the devastation for the people affected. In addition, explain the role of social determinants of health in community resiliency in disasters or public health emergencies.
3. Fully explain an evidenced-based solution to mitigate health inequities. Cite specific examples with objective data to support why this solution should work and should be widely adopted.
4. Biblical perspective in leadership response.
5. Conclusion – 5-8 sentences. Conclusions should summarize the essay, do not give new information or add citations.

Assignment Instructions

Please write a 3–5-page paper fully addressing the content outline. Your written communication should reflect a thorough understanding of the topic and scholarly expertise appropriate for upper-division collegial work and include critical analysis, application of information, correct use of terms, and grammar/spelling. Please include these elements.

1. APA style formatting is required, including but not limited to the title page, abstract, headings, etc. See LUO resources for formatting and citation style required for all doctoral students.
2. Objective data, evidence must be used to address the issue. Generalized statements are not acceptable.
3. A minimum of 8-10 peer reviewed references, published in the last five years, are required. (Wikis, blogs, internet website sources should not be used as these are not considered academic references.)
4. Biblical worldview with support with scripture references. Cite the scripture and apply the scripture references to the prompt.
5. Essay should be 3-5 pages, not including title and reference pages.
