o Locate and summarize the conceptual or theoretical framework.
§ If a conceptual or theoretical framework is not presented, discuss why you feel the author did not include one.
• Evaluate the problem statement and purpose statement using the following questions as a guide:
o Is the purpose statement clear and concise? Is it directly linked to the problem statement?
o Does the purpose statement include relationships among variables (quantitative) or a central phenomenon (qualitative)?
o Does the purpose statement identify the participants and site?
o Does the purpose statement mention a theory?
• Evaluate the conceptual or theoretical framework using the following questions as a guide:
o Does the literature review establish the basis for the conceptual or theoretical framework?
o Is the conceptual or theoretical framework easy to follow and logical?
o Does the conceptual or theoretical framework contribute to the study in a meaningful way?
• Provide a brief conclusion that discusses your understanding of the problem statement and conceptual/theoretical framework in relation to a proposed doctoral study topic under consideration.
