Submission Format
The submission is in the form of a report and a presentation. The report should be technical and written in a concise and formal research writing and business style. As such, your choice of font face and font size should contribute to the clarity of the information. The report should be well structured, using headings, sub-sections and paragraphs as appropriate and should contain the appropriate drawings. Any images, graphics, or text that is derived from other sources must be correctly referenced using a standard form of citation. A bibliography should be included and in a standard academic format. The project should be presented in class followed by a Q & A session. The project should be presented by using power point or similar software. Your report should be about 3000 words in length. Always keep in mind that being clear and succinct are key features of professional documents. The presentation which should be about 15 minutes to be presented before a nominated audience should be professional prepared in a standard and acceptable style.
Your Construction Information Package and the Report should be submitted as a single of PDF document. Remember, these are intended to be downloadable so manage your file sizes appropriately (do not output super high-resolution A0 sized sheets!). It is best to keep the page sizes to A3 maximum. Because these are to be viewed on screen, images do not need to be large or high-resolution. As a guide,
a 1024 × 768 image at 96dpi will be more than sufficient for on-screen viewing.

Assignment Brief and Guidance
Scenario
You are working as a graduate Engineer for a medium sized engineering consultancy.
Your consultancy has been awarded a job for the design and build of a 5 Storey hotel building, worth £25
M. The building frame provides the structure for a series of high specification hotel bed rooms, conference rooms, car park, meeting and a restaurant which are intended to be built in the south of England, around Heathrow Airport. The hotel building can be developed with steel or concrete or a combination of both. The site
of the proposed hotel building is in a rectangular shape of size 40x 25m. The client requires a sustainable and cost effective design.
Your company is responsible for the design of the building and project management of construction. You have been given a task to prepare a construction information package (a set of construction drawings and details, specifications and schedules), using industry-standard tools and techniques and a report highlighting the following.
In your report and the Construction Information package you should consider the practical benefits, and challenges, of utilizing AI and/or emerging technologies to develop construction design ideas.

• Describe all the stages and activities in a construction design process and assess the relationship between project and design stages and the requirement of sharing information in it. Also discuss the importance of Artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies in these stages.
• Explain the type of information required for all the stages of construction you have discussed above.
• Critically evaluate the relationship between design and project stages and highlight the processes and procedures (use of AI and emerging technologies) to ensure efficient coordination

and sharing of information throughout. To illustrate this, you may wish to use the sketches or models used in developing your design proposal.
• Examine the client brief for a given project to ascertain the requirements of the project.
• In your report outline the relationships between drawings, schedules and specifications required for a given project.
• In your report analyze the importance of clash detection and information coordination in a project. (Use of emerging technologies/BIM)
• For the construction information package create construction drawings and details using industry-standard tools and techniques using Auto Cad or Revit.
• Also produce specifications, schedules and an outline construction health & safety phase plan for a given project.
• Prepare specification preliminaries, describing general project requirements and contract terms and schedule of works, in coordination with construction drawings and details.
• Carry out the evaluation of how coordination of information can help to ensure accuracy and how this leads to quality. How emerging technologies can in improving this.
• Explain different ways and process of information sharing and coordination between different participants and stakeholders in a construction project. Highlight the use of Artificial intelligence (AI) in this process.
• Analyze how the coordination of information in a construction project is influenced by the relationship between different forms of contractual relationships between stakeholders.
• Present your report and Construction Information package to your tutor and colleagues. (Maximum 15 minutes)
