Occupational Health and Safety

INSTRUCTIONS

The following assignment is a group project. Students are required to work in groups (no more than 3 persons) and create a 10- 15 min presentation on a particular Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) topic in the agricultural sector. For the presentation students are required to research and explain in detail the particular hazards associated with the topic. Local examples are to be included to illustrate where such hazards may exist or have the high probability of existing. The use statistical data, if available is encouraged. An overview of the measures that can be applied to reduce the risks must be included in the presentation as well as performing a detailed risk assessment on a case study that each group develops.

All references used must be stated.

The assignment will have two submissions. One will be a power-point presentation saved in ppt format and the other a voice-over recording of the same presentation. The first page of the presentation must include the link for the voice over recording. It is recommended that the voice- over recording be saved as a MP4 file and uploaded in a cloud with the link attached to the first page of the power-point presentation. The voice-over recording file may be too large to be uploaded on my eLearning.

All work must be submitted  under Assignment 2 submission as a zipped folder.

Assignment

You and your group (Table 1) belong to a local safety consulting firm. Your group is making a 10- 15 min presentation to a technical conference on the hazards associated with the Agricultural sector in the region. The group has decided that the best way to present the risk assessment is through a case study (an actual case or hypothetical case). The format of the presentation should include the following

i. Title of Presentation: Name of firm, Group members, Topic of discussion (as listed in Table 1), Course code and link to voice-over recording

ii. Plagiarism form

iii. Definition the term Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)

iv. Explanation of the significance of OSH with respect to agriculture in the Caribbean region

and at a national level (your own country)

v. Description in detail of the topic and related hazards

vi. Evaluation of the social and economic impact of the hazards on agricultural sector and wider society within the Caribbean region.

vii. Recommendations of plausible measures that can be used to reduce the risk within the Caribbean region

viii. Development of a simple case study through identifying a task associated with this hazard and then performing a detailed qualitative risk assessment
