Counseling Models

The primary objective of this paper is to identify and give a rationale for your praxes, especially your counseling model. Your paper should be no less than 7 pages and no more than 10 pages, double-spaced, and following current APA formatting guidelines. The paper should include a title page, abstract, introduction, discussion, and references page. You should support your argument with at least 8 references.

In this paper, use the following elements to structure your argument:

• Metatheory – In this section, the objective is to describe and give a rationale for the following: o
  Theory of Flourishing: Describe and give a rationale for your theory of essential flourishing, including the essential virtues and an exemplar.
  o Theory of Pathology: Describe and give a rationale for your theory of essential pathology.
  o Theory of Restoration: Describe and give a rationale for your theory of essential restoration.
• Pathological Dynamics & Diagnoses – In this section, the objective is to describe any pathological dynamics and diagnoses that are distinctive to your approach.
• Goals, Relational Dynamics & Roles – In this section, the objective is to describe and give a rationale for your overarching goals/aims of counseling and to describe and give a rationale for the roles of the client, the counselor, and God (if applicable) in the counseling process. Be sure to identify which role(s) possess primary agency for restoration. Also, identify and describe the qualities of the relationships (among roles) necessary for restoration. Finally, identify your responsibilities to clients, God (if applicable), colleagues, and supervisors.
• Relation to Counseling Theory – In this section, the objective is to identify and describe any major counseling theory(ies) that informs your approach. Identify any areas of incompatibility and how you will address those. Finally, identify how translating the theory(ies) into your worldview will modify the theory(ies).
• Major Strategies and Interventions – In this section, the objective is to briefly identify and describe any strategies and interventions essential to your counseling model.
• Description of Context – The objective here is to identify your desired context for the practice of counseling and to describe the implications of an implicit or explicit approach to integration. Give a sufficient rationale for your context.

Professional Development – Identify areas for continued professional development and specialization given the context. Finally, identify two short (within 2-3 years post-Master’s degree) and two long-term (within 10 years post-Master’s degree) professional goals for yourself as a Clinical Mental Health counselor
