The Essay is worth 70% of the module mark. It is a single, individual task.
Assignment Task:
Choose two well-known contemporary or historical leaders. Use “desk-based” research and secondary data from published works (e.g. newspapers, books, academic articles, or quality internet sources) to critically evaluate and analyse the leaders. The essay should include: an introduction; a concise explanation and justification of your key concepts; a profile, analysis, and critical evaluation of each leader’s approach to leadership using evidence and concepts; a later section comparing / contrasting both leaders; and a conclusion. Emphasise your essay structure, key concepts, and central themes and arguments. Cite and reference sources accurately.
- Answers should be 2,500 words long (+/- 10%, excluding references)
- The answer should take the form of a properly structured short essay.
Additional instructions
- Your assignment should be clearly written following academic conventions.
- Your assignment must contain a COVER PAGE with the Module Name, Module Code, your Student Registration number, and your Essay Title. Do not include your name here.
- Word-process the assignment, in a MS Word compatible format, font size 12pt, 1.5 lines spacing and page numbers. PDF is acceptable, but MS Word is preferable.
- Use the Harvard Referencing System. If you’re unsure about referencing, contact the EBS Learning Support Team.
- The total word count can be 10% above or below the limit stated, references excluded.
- Remember, your work needs to be grounded in academic literature. You can reference relevant academic articles, journals, and books available through the University Library.
- Keep the use of popular sources such as blogs, Wikipedia, discussion fora, social media, and similar sites to the enrichment of context or examples. Analysis and use of leadership theory or concepts should not be based on these, but on academic peer-reviewed sources.
- Remember that material from the Worldwide Web must be referenced appropriately. Also, state the date you “last accessed” these sources.
- All electronically submitted work will be checked for plagiarism.
