Creating a Budget

BUDGET AND TIMELINE ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
One of the best pieces of advice you can follow is to ensure that you have a solid blueprint for the grant proposal. This means that each point is clearly aligned with the funding organization’s mission, values and purpose. This also means that you have carefully considered the budget and timeline for your proposed initiatives. If you have not engaged in this process, it may feel very daunting; however, it can allow you to address issues in the planning process that could become challenges later.
INSTRUCTIONS
Your textbooks have wonderful information regarding how to create a budget and timeline, and this week, you will create these documents as additional content for your grant proposal.
Karsh and Fox (2019) shared several considerations in Chapter 12 to guide your creation of a reasonable budget document. The guiding principle for both budget and timeline considerations is that they must be consistent with what you have proposed to accomplish. While some grant descriptions are very specific, others lack specificity and will require more structure from you. For this week’s assignment, you will add to your existing grant proposal by creating budget and timeline documents.
• For the budget document, create an Excel or Word file to justify expenditures in the following four categories: Professional services, fringe benefits, Other than personnel services (OTPS), indirect costs. • For the timeline document, create an Excel or Word file to highlight key steps and deliverables, noting time frame for each (in alignment with your selected grant application). Remember that is it prudent to err on the side of being conservative; often, “life happens” and you may run into unforeseen challenges.
For your assignment submission, please combine the budget and timeline components into a single file for ease of reference and feedback.
