Economic Diversification in the GCC Region

Module Learning Outcomes 

The following LOs are achieved by the student by completing the assignment successfully

1. Investigate and appraise dynamic nature of development of the region in general and the Sultanate of Oman in particular by comprehending the history, policies and the nature of business and economic environment.

• Analyze the characteristics of the GCC framework, policies and regional/national characteristics and describe the strengths and weaknesses of the region. 

• Comprehend the functioning of regional integration and analyze the implication of agreements on businesses. 

Assignment Tasks

The assignment is divided into 2 specific parts. The students should focus on the guidelines appropriate for the assignment along-with its deliverables and the marking rubrics to produce a well thought out report

Task 1

1. Provide critical discussion on the concept of GCC, its history and purpose.                   (5 Marks)

1. Critically explain the concept of economic diversification.         (10Marks)

• Explain Key Drivers of Economic diversification in GCC countries.   (30 Marks) 
  • In the article 3 Key Drivers of Economic diversification in GCC countries has been provided identify them and explain.
  • Students are also requested to search and write about other 3 Key Drivers of Economic diversification in any country. Make sure that your answer is supported with in-text citation. It is expected from each student to have his / her own information and explanation on other Key Drivers of Economic diversification in any country which depends on his/her research and reading.

• What is the importance of economic diversification?                       (10 Marks)

• Select any three GCC country excluding Oman and critically explain the diversification strategy of those countries according to the case.    (15 Marks)     

• Do a research and read about current diversification strategy of Oman. Compare Oman diversification strategy which is provided in case study with current development strategy, provide your own discussion.                               (10 Marks)

• Write a conclusion in which you will make sure to highlight your findings (5 marks)
