General Psychology Paper
Throughout the semester students have completed 5 Journal Article Analysis/APA Assignments to develop their critical thinking, analysis, writing, and APA skills. Students are now prepared to write the General Psychology Paper.
Paper Assignment
From the Experience Psychology textbook, the student will choose a topic from Chapters 10, 11, 12, or 14. (Students should consider the questions on elements #4a-c below as they choose a topic.) The student will use this topic to write an informational paper formatted using APA 7th Style. In this paper the student will connect information from the textbook with information from at least 3 recent research journal articles (2010-present). Topics might include things like, bi-polar disorder, healthy sleep, ADHD treatments, personality assessment, attribution theory, etcetera. The minimum paper length is 5 pages, including the title page and reference page.
First, using the skills developed on the Journal Article papers, students will produce an APA 7th styled outline for their paper that includes all the elements listed below. A minimum of three journal article will be used in the paper. References for these articles will be listed on the reference page of the outline. This will be submitted in Week 6 for a grade. (30 pts)
Second, students will read the feedback left on their outline submissions in Bb and use that and the prompts given below in the elements to finish writing their paper. Students must write in their own words (points deducted for using quotes). Students must also cite sources in an appropriate fashion (e.g., when using information from a source, when switching between sources). This will be submitted in Week 7 for another grade. (100 pts)
The outline and paper must have the following ELEMENTS and use APA 7th (rubric below):
- Title Page
- Introduction (basic information on the topic, e.g., define, population affected, )
- Body: Article Summaries and Short Critiques for each article (minimum of one paragraph for each article—do not use bullet points.
- Body: Article -Textbook Connection (minimum one article and textbook per question; minimum of one paragraph for each section listed below—do not use bullet points)
a. How would the average person in the United States describe this topic?
b. What is a common misconception about this topic and what makes it a misconception?
c. Considering how this topic is presented in the chapter, what has recent research revealed that is new or different? - Conclusion (short summary and what the student has learned)
