Your job will be to find out what motivational strategies are used in that space and, according to your research and study of Daniel Pink’s book Drive, create an argument about motivation in that organization or group.
PURPOSE (THE GOALS):
Your paper should illustrate an ability to:
• construct a claim-based thesis that engages readers.
• organize and utilize the parts of argument.
• use logical reasoning (and avoid fallacies) to build an argument.
• use rhetorical strategies, like objective language and the three appeals, to engage a specific audience.
• adequately analyze a topic using multi-perspectival thinking and consideration of the rhetorical situation.
• use effective research strategies.
• integrate credible sources using the sandwich method, synthesizing at least two of those sources.
• summarize textual information as necessary.
• use the conventions of standard written English.
PROCESS (THE APPROACH):
• Think broadly about your topic choice – you may select an
organization, institution, or any entity where people come together for some purpose. You will also want to narrow your findings to
focus on one or two aspects of motivation.
• Once you select a specific organization, conduct research on the group itself and the members. Personal interviews are a great way to collect information; this can be used as a source.
• Analyze your findings and form a conclusion. That conclusion will be the basis of your argument for the paper.
